Bicentenary: Marist celebrations at Genval and Habay
A beautiful gathering took place at Genval on the afternoon of 2nd January. Celebrating a bicentenary is not a common event, particularly a family anniversary. And so a significant gathering was called for. For that is what being Marist is: people coming together to celebrate and share.
The community of Genval was joined by all the Brothers from Kessel-Lo and Brothers from Brussels, from Malmedy and from Oostakker. The three priests who share the Eucharist with the community were also present. Everyone came together to listen, to have some time for prayer and to share a fraternal celebration.
The programme included a slide show on the first growth of the Institute in 1817 and how that could find an echo in our daily lives. We then watched the video of Brother Emili Turú, Superior General. A celebration in the chapel presented the opportunity to commend all those present to the maternal care of our Good Mother. Finally, a bite to eat, with an anniversary cake decorated with the logo of the bicentenary.
In spite of the travel difficulties experienced due to the condition of the roads, everyone returned home, happy to have had a ringside seat as we entered the 3rd centenary of our Institute.
Brother Roberto Di Troia
Brother Robert Lemaire has sent a report of the celebration which took place in his community at Habay-la-Vieille on the 2nd January. The report can be downloaded here (in French).
