Preparation for the Bicentenary
Launch of the Fourvière Year
On the 23rd July 2016 we will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Pledge that was made by twelve young men, some of them newly ordained priests, others still semina-rians, in the chapel of Fourvière in Lyons, to consecrate themselves to founding the congregation of Marists. Today, one year before that jubilee, marks the end of the Montagne Year in the Institute and the beginning of the Fourvière Year, whose theme will be: “The Society of Mary – fraternity: associates for the mission (Brothers and Laity)”.
This year of prayer and reflection will be celebrated by all the branches of the Marist Family. The four Superiors General have written a letter on the occasion of the launch of the Fourvière Year, and two prayers have been composed, one by Brother Emili Turú, Superior General, and one on behalf of the Marist Family. Please click on the above links to read the letter and the prayers.
More information on the Fourvière Year Please can be found on the website of the Institute, www.champagnat.org. The Marist Family has also created a website (www.maristinter.org) that offers material on the Bicentenary of the Pledge.
